Added 10.03.17

Andrew Bridgen MP visited Hicks Lodge Cycle Centre (LE65 2UP) with John Everitt, Chief Executive of the National Forest Company to meet with employees of James Latham timber company in Leicestershire.

James Latham are celebrating their 260th anniversary this year and they are long term supporters of the National Forest. The work day was held as part of James Latham’s support for the National Forest providing volunteers to remove scrub and promote heathland regeneration at the National Forest Cycle Centre in the Heart of the National Forest.  The work is part of the Black to Green Heritage Lottery Funded project led by the National Forest Company.

John Everitt, Chief Executive, National Forest Company said:

“We are pleased that Andrew Bridgen MP attended Hicks Lodge to congratulate James Lathams on their 260th anniversary and being a long term supporter of the National Forest. We wanted to use the day to highlight the partnership, showcase the work they are doing with us on forest management in the Heart of the Forest and celebrate their anniversary.”

Andrew Bridgen, MP for North West Leicestershire said:

“It was fantastic to see the work conducted by staff and suppliers James Latham at the National Forest Cycle Centre. It is local partnerships such as these that have enabled the National Forest Company to grow from strength to strength over the years. And as the MP for the area, I am very proud of their achievements. It was also beneficial to hear from the Chief Executive the latest on the National Forest Tourism Growth Plan and Heart of the Forest Masterplanning.”

Chris Sutton, Managing Director at James Latham said:

As a long established company, 1757, we have always taken environmental and forestry matters very seriously, hence our involvement with the National Forest and our strong links with the Timber Trade Federation and their Responsible Purchasing Policy .

Legal and sustainable timber is readily available in the U.K. Market and is very much in demand for use in many different applications and we are aware that the Government appears to support the increased use of timber which is good news. The Confederation of Timber Industry (CTI) are working hard on representing our industry with one voice and are involved with the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) to promote the credentials of timber and its uses.
