Veneer Panels by Latham Timber

Querkus Veneer Panels

Back to Products

Querkus is Decospan's ecological answer to the contemporary interior design trends in Northern Europe.  A sustainably designed product that combines authentic materials with engineered stability.

Decospan source both sustainably harvested certified European white oak and reclaimed oak timbers to compose their panels. These are sparingly used to create a natural looking board with a minimal amount of material, successfully marrying the look of a solid plank with a more sustainable format.

Using unique and innovative veneer matching techniques, boards are created that give a designer unprecedented choice in a wood panel product.  Wire brushing and patented “saw effect” scratching options impart character, texture and authenticity to the meticulously assembled board. No matter how they’re finished, Querkus panels look natural.

Querkus is a panel line that offers flexibility and customization with regard to design, budget and application all while being imminently available.

The Collection

Oak Natural

For ‘Oak Natural’, only carefully selected oak is used, sourced from tightly controlled growing areas in Croatia.  This is guaranteed by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certificate.  You can opt for the pure beauty of this oak with a clear conscience.

Oak Vintage - Old timbers recycled to retain the authentic nature

We can revive a piece of the past by giving these old materials a new use.  In their past life, these materials were used for Railway Trucks.  Decospan recycles these materials by giving them a new life in your interior.

Oak Smoked - Veneer is smoked to give it a cool, rugged appearance

‘Oak Smoked Havana’ has a very strong feel.  Smoking the Croatian Oak in the core gives it an appearance that is full of class.  The traditional smoking process and typical properties of the oak gives it a look of strength.

Oak Vintage Retro

Pays tribute to the quality and homely cosiness of yesteryear. With its softer expression, Vintage retro is the perfect alternative for those looking for a less pronounced yet authentic character. The Vintage retro references are only available in 0.6 mm which makes this line also very accessible from a budgetary point of view.

More Information

Step 1 - Look:
Select the LOOK of the Querkus veneer sheets. The mixmatch technique used for jointing the veneers gives the collection a solid appearance. Mixmatch is a jointing technique achieved by randomly combining the veneer from different logs using a process developed and patented by Decospan itself.

Step 2 - Thickness:
Different veneer thicknesses can be offered, depending on the look chosen.  What is important here is not just the budget but also the surface finish wanted. The thicker the veneer, the more character it can be given. The thickness below indicates the veneer thickness before the surface treatment. Final thickness may vary.

Step 3 – Touch:
The structure of the oak lends itself perfectly to different surface finishing processes. This means that the feel of the veneer can be particularly emphasised. You can sense that the material is genuine and that it differs from the many imitations on the market.

  • Plain - The standard panels are pre-sanded with grit 120. The term “PLAIN” refers to the flat surface which can be finished by the person working with the wood himself.  This gives you the possibility of sanding and finishing the wood veneer to meet your own wishes.

  • Brushed - This makes it possible to bring out more clearly the natural structure of the wood.
Brushed type B1: With this technique, the softer summer wood is lightly brushed. The B1 brushing gives a subtle impression of depth to the surface and adds to the natural feel.
Brushed type B2: The deep brushing approximates to sand blasting of the wood.  With this process, it is not only the soft summer wood that is brushed away but a deeper structure is brought to all areas of the wood. This deep brushing is only possible if the top layer is more than 1 mm thick. Please note: Decospan recommends that this finishing is always be done on both sides to ensure the stability of the panel as much as possible.

  • Scratched - Creates authenticity by applying unique patterns to the surface.  Decospan can create band saw effects on the surface using a patented procedure. By scratching the veneer the surface gets a rough sawn structure and gives the panel a solid look.  Note: Scratching on veneered panels with a coloured core (green / red / black) can sometimes give a light penetration of colour and is therefore not recommended.
