An area in which specifications have increased significantly in recent years.
Acoustic values may be expressed in decibels (“dB”). A door with a 41dB rating will, again when used in accordance with test evidence, acoustically insulate to lower the noise transfer by 41 decibels.
Critical to this performance is not just the correct door blank, but also the appropriate seal configuration. A glazed door will perform differently to a flush door, and often glazing can vastly improve or reduce the acoustic value. Specification may quote a required decibel value, but the glazing detail is often overlooked. A glazed door, for hotel rooms for example, is of no use – it has to be a flush.
