Many doors, particularly those going into commercial or public buildings, will be subject to high levels of wear and tear. The corridor doors in a school, hospital or office block will be opened and closed many, many times.
There are several standards or measurements for doorset durability including DD171, BSEN1191, BSEN1192, BSEN12217. In laboratory tests the doorset and its component elements are put through repetitive “opening and closing” cycles, typically 500,000 or 1,000,000 cycles. Other ‘abuse’ tests - for example hard body impact, mechanical loading and manual cutting will be carried out on the door that will also test the glazing, ironmongery and seals.
