Marley Decking

Available in ROI and NI only.

Marley Decking is a selected joinery grade European Redwood Decking.

Many conventional timber deck boards can become slippery in wet conditions and present the danger of slips, falls and personal injury. Marley has long recognised this problem and the need to provide enhanced grip with its range of structural timber decking products for commercial applications including schools, business parks, universities, theme parks, zoos etc.

For high risk areas use our JB AntislipPlus range and where a smooth profile for mobility is required opt for the JB Citideck range.

In accordance with BS 8417, Marley Decking is treated to achieve a 30 year extended service life.

JB Antislip Plus® timber decking boards have been specifically designed to provide a durable and effective external anti-slip surface to minimise any risk of slipping even in adverse weather conditions.

For most uses two non slip inserts are appropriate, however there are instances where three inserts should be used, for example on a public walkway which crosses water.

Boards are graded to BS 4978:2007+A1:2011 Strength Class C16 or C24.

C16 is suitable for most landscaping and commercial applications such as stairs and ramps.
C24 is suitable for applications where there may be higher loads or there is the need for wider joist centres. These may include bridge decks, boardwalks and balconies. These premium boards are further inspected to ensure there are no knot holes or excessive dead knots.

Antislip rating

Marley has developed the JB Antislip Plus® insert in-house and have their own production facility. Complete control is taken at all stages of the production process. The production runs within their ISO 9001 quality assurance scheme.

JB Antislip Plus® has been independently tested by the Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) using a Stanley Pendulum Test (the operation and calibration of which are described in BS7976:2002 parts 1 and 3) operated to the current issue# of the United Kingdom Slip Resistance Group (UKSRG) guidelines (Issue 3, 2005).

The samples were tested with Slider 96 Rubber, also known as Four-S Rubber (Standard Simulated Shoe Sole), which was developed to represent a footwear material of moderate performance. Using Slider 96 Rubber, the Pendulum Test Values (PTVs) achieved significantly exceed the minimum required classification for low potential for slip. Under the UKSRG guidelines, a surface is required to have a PTV of 36 or above to be considered to have a low potential for slip

The results of the HSL test are as follows:

JB Antislip Plus® with 2 inserts: Average* PTV = 63 when wet (27 above required standard)
JB Antislip Plus® with 3 inserts: Average* PTV = 69 when wet (33 above required standard)

JB Antislip Plus® with 2 inserts: Average* PTV = 78 when dry (42 above required standard)
JB Antislip Plus® with 3 inserts: Average* PTV = 81 when dry (45 above required standard)

# Correct at date of printing.
*Testing carried out using castellated (grooved) boards to a variety of different orientations.
Date of testing: August 2007.
